Any long-time Charcoals may remember the controversial first post I did on black women and blonde hair. There were some choices reactions from some commenters. I am not dictating at all that black women can’t wear blonde hair or whatever, but as this is a natural hair blog, we can discuss what types of colours suit black women better.
I am a fan of natural looking hair colours and I am not judging any black women for having blonde hair. Right let’s get on with the discussion!
I think with many black female celebrities and businesswomen, there has been a renaissance in the blonde hair trend. Let’s look at three recent examples.
1. Nicky Minaj
I like Nicky’s attitude and her hard work ethic, but I still don’t think blonde hair works for her.
2. Rihanna
I am on the fence about this one. I have always thought that the black/brown hair colour suited Rihanna the best. The blonde hair looks a bit harsh for her. What do you think?
3. Coco & Breezy
Coco & Breezy are two African-American eyewear designers. I stumbled across their work one day and they keep a blog as well detailing how they are trying to build their eyewear business. I like their hard graft ethic. Do you think the blonde hair suits them? They have pictures on their blog of them with their natural black hair and personally I think they look really pretty with the natural black tone.

I hate the blonde hair on all four of them. And I don’t like it on Beyonce either. I think people look better when their hair color is darker than their skin tone. It frames the face better and accentuates teh facial features.

Hey, even you said that Beyonce looked better with darker hair! Don’t get me wrong; she still looked fierce, but she definitely looks better with darker hair

I honestly think blonde hair depends on who is wearing it. Not every black woman can pull it off. I think Nicky Minaj blonde hair is to harsh and does not flatter her, but I kinda understand why she’s wearing it because she has this Barbie influence that she follows. I think Rihannas hair is okay, but I like it more when she had brown in it. In all it depends on who you are.
